Race #5 Recap Jun 25, 2017
Sauble Speedway: Saturday June 24th would be a full night of racing. With clear skies and time for practice, heat races and feature races weather would not be the storey...

Practice and the heat races showed that under clear skies and cool temps the track had little grip. Sophmore driver Mike Johnson lead the field to green for the start of the 30 lap feature. During the first half of the race Johnson and Bryan Stevanus battled for the lead while the cars of Tim Norris and Kyle Batty worked they way through the field. At the mid point Stevanus went wide and Norris & Batty slipped underneath, a lap later they would repeat the move on Johnson. The final laps would see Norris hold off Batty for the win and Johnson hold off Stevanus for third while Peter Hattin finished fifth.

After a delay of over two hours the nights schedule would be shortened to two full field heats and the normal 30 lap feature. Heat 1 would run with no hiccups except for a clutch problem which retired the 37 car of Larry Majuery. Heat 2 however would be a different storey. Before the completion of the first lap a massive wreck coming off of turn four would involve 6 cars, with 3 leaving on the hook. The night was over shortly after, as mother nature took over and Sunset Speedway was forced to cancel the Feature races.

With a field set by last years points Mike Johnson and Dean Pronovost brought the field to the line for the start of the 2017 Season! While the field battled each other and shook the rust off, it was clear to see that last years top competitors of Tim Norris and Kyle Batty had no such issues.
